is to get drunk & angry, perhaps love
has fallen through & you have smashed
her tennis racket & and she has mocked you
so you run reeling to your guitar case
& break out the six-stringed wonder &,
grabbing it by the neck, you smash it
against the floor until the body comes away
in pieces, there are splinters everywhere
& you are still firmly gripping the intact neck.
This is one way that it could be done. & after
you have broken it you cry, & that cry
is the total perfection of the blues.
